What a day! 4 rounds complete in just under 15 hours, some epic / terrible golf played along the way, all to support a very deserving charity Diabetes UK đź’™

The WeAreGo team really pulled together on this one to make the day a great success.

How it started

We arrived at the Forest of Arden golf course around 4:30am to get ready for our 1st round tee off at 5am. The weather was good and the skies were clear, it was already showing signs of being a really hot day but we were all in good spirits and up for the challenge of completing 72 holes in one day, carrying our clubs. No trolleys or buggies allowed on this one!

Thank you to Diabetes UK for supplying our shirts for the day, we were proud to wear them.

So, with a quiet course and energy to burn, we set off, dodging the sprinklers on the way and making good progress on the 1st round, arriving back at the 18th hole in less than 3 hours.

The middle of the day

As the 2nd round started, the sun was high in the sky and it was getting hot out there. Thank you to Chris Moore from Appleton Woods for arriving at the golf course to lend his support, it was a great boost to the team and to Carol as he became her unofficial guide of the course.

Golf day

We had a quick break for lunch, took on some food and more fluid and met up with Pete Shorrick, the Head of Midlands and East from Diabetes UK who had come along to show his support. The lads were all doing really well and we were still in good spirits and eager to continue.

By the time the 3rd round started at 12:50, the sun was beating down and it was getting very hot. We were 10 under par at this stage and had almost reached our fundraising target of ÂŁ1,000, which was amazing. However, the course was now really busy and quite congested which did slow us down, but the support from the other players on the course was fantastic.

Our final round started around 5pm, we were tired, aching and had plenty of blisters that would need some attention later, but we were doing it together as a team. A breeze had picked up and there were more clouds in the sky which helped us, but not so much Steve Lowry, our FPV drone pilot, who had come along to do some epic drone footage of our final round. He did give us a telling off for almost hitting his drone with a golf ball, but hopefully it will result in some fantastic footage!

How it finished

With a 5am start and an 8pm finish, we completed 15 hours of golf in one day and walked almost 38 km.

There were some well deserved beers waiting for us at the final 18th hole.

A massive thank you to James Scott, John Whittaker, Sam Rose and Adam Green for taking part in what turned out to be an epic day.

So why did we do this?

The team at WeAreGo have supported Diabetes UK since being founded by James Scott back in 2016. Along with making monthly donations to the charity, every year the team organise a fundraising challenge and in recent years the team have completed the likes of Tough Mudder and Dry January. Each year we pick a new challenge to help connect with a different network of people and make them aware of the great work that Diabetes UK are doing each and every day.

Our Founder and MD, James Scott, has lived with Type 1 Diabetes since he was 11 years of age and Diabetes UK has always been there for support and advice whenever he’s needed it.

They do a fantastic job supporting everyone living with Diabetes in the UK, whether Type 1, Type 2 or any other types of diabetes. Diabetes UK campaign for better care and fund ground-breaking research into new treatments and a cure. They are on a mission to tackle diabetes, day in and day out, until it can do no harm.

If you would like to support, there’s still time to donate via our justgiving page:
